We are in 174 AD, in the midst of the Bohemian campaign.

At the edge of the Empire, the Roman camp is buzzing with tension: after months of fighting against the Marcomanni, Emperor Marcus Aurelius is finally about to sign a decisive peace treaty with their leader, Marobod.

This signature could put an end to an exhausting war.

But tonight, in the imperial tent, set up amidst the legions, everything changes.

At the heart of the diplomatic banquet, as the cups are raised and smiles become strained, Marcus Aurelius suddenly collapses.

Dead... and the circumstances are far from a simple fainting spell.
