Four things worth knowing before you pick a route.
An outdoor escape game takes the mechanics of a classic escape room and plays them across a real neighbourhood. Your team gets a starting point and a mission — in an app or with a game master on the phone — and walks from landmark to landmark solving riddles tied to the actual streets, statues and hidden details around you. It is part escape room, part sightseeing tour, part treasure hunt, and every route doubles as a walk through the most interesting corners of Montpellier.
Unlike an indoor quest, there is no room capacity and no fixed time slot. Two of you can play a slow romantic route, or you can split 30 colleagues into rival teams on the same trail — which is why the format is the go-to pick for team building, birthdays, stag and hen parties and school groups. Most routes take 1.5–2.5 hours, you start whenever you like and pause for coffee whenever you want.
Prices are usually per team rather than per person, which makes outdoor quests one of the cheapest group activities in Montpellier — and tickets rarely expire, so you can book now and play any day. The games run in every season: on a rainy day just pick a route with more covered passages, or save the ticket for the weekend after.
Every card on this page shows the route length, duration, price and player reviews. Wear comfortable shoes, bring a charged phone, and check the starting point before you set off — the city is already waiting.
You book a route, get a starting point and play through your phone: the game leads your team from spot to spot, and every riddle is hidden in the real streets, buildings and monuments around you. Solve one clue to unlock the next — no actor, no room, the city itself is the game.
Most routes take 1.5–2.5 hours at a relaxed pace and cover 2–4 km. There is usually no hard time limit — you can pause for coffee or photos whenever you like.
From 2 players to as many as you want: unlike an indoor escape room there is no capacity limit. Big groups simply split into rival teams and race the same route — the favourite format for team building and parties.
Outdoor quests run in every season — dress for the weather like for a regular city walk. Tickets usually stay valid, so if the sky really opens you can simply play another day.
Just a charged smartphone with internet access (one per team is enough), comfortable shoes and your team. Everything else is in the game.
Yes — most routes are family-friendly, and because every puzzle is tied to real landmarks, an outdoor quest doubles as the most entertaining sightseeing tour you can take in a new city.
